A Canadian Security Services Provider With a Hidden SEO Problem

GForce Security is a Canadian security services company offering security guard services, mobile patrol, event security, and corporate security solutions across multiple Canadian provinces. The business had been operating for several years with a functional website, regular blog publishing, and a growing content library – all the ingredients of a site that should have been ranking well for its commercial keywords.

It wasn’t. Despite consistent content production, the service pages that should have been capturing buyer-intent traffic were underperforming. Organic leads were coming in, but the quality was inconsistent – too many general inquiries from people researching the industry rather than businesses ready to hire a security provider.

The root cause wasn’t a lack of content. It was the content that already existed, doing exactly the wrong job.

Fixing Content Cannibalization & Boosting Lead Quality

The Challenge: The Cannibalization Diagnosis

Blog Posts Were Outranking Service Pages for Commercial Keywords

Content cannibalization is almost always invisible. At GForce, a blog post titled “What to Look for When Hiring a Security Guard Company” was ranking #1 for “security guard services Canada.”

While the post was high-quality, it lacked a quote form and pricing signals. Google was sending ready-to-buy prospects to an informational article instead of a transactional service page. The lead was lost before it ever formed.

The Scope of Conflict Found:

  • ‘Security guard services Canada’ → Blog outranking Service Page.
  • ‘Mobile patrol services’ → Informational post outranking /mobile-patrol/.
  • Internal Linking Errors: Blogs were linking to other blogs, reinforcing informational authority at the expense of commercial pages.

1. Keyword Strategy: One Intent Per Page

I eliminated internal competition by assigning each page a unique intent modifier. This prevents Google from confusing informational blogs with commercial service pages.

  • Commercial Pages: Use “services,” “company,” or “hire” modifiers.
  • Informational Blogs: Use “what is,” “how to,” or “checklist” modifiers.

2. The 3-Phase Content Approach

  • Phase 1 (Pause): Halted new publishing to fix the broken foundation.
  • Phase 2 (Elevate): Expanded service pages from 200 to 900+ words, adding FAQ blocks, testimonials, and Schema markup.
  • Phase 3 (Reposition): Converted blog posts into Authority Funnels by rewriting titles and adding direct CTA links to services.

3. Hub & Spoke Architecture

I deployed a structural circuit to flow authority correctly:

  • Hub: Central category page (/security-services/).
  • Spokes: Service pages and blog posts linking back to the Hub and forward to conversions.
  • Result: 100% architectural fix—no redirects or URL changes required.

4. Conversion-Focused CTA Design

We optimized the “last mile” of SEO by placing specific CTAs based on page type:

  • Service Pages: High-contrast buttons Above the Fold, Mid-Page, and Bottom.
  • Blog Posts: Contextual inline links and full-width “Ready to Hire?” blocks at the end.

5. 6-Step Implementation Process

  • Audit: Mapped URLs to intent.
  • Governance: Assigned unique keywords.
  • Expansion: Built service page authority.
  • Repositioning: Aligned blogs with research intent.
  • Redesign: Implemented Hub-Spoke linking.
  • Monitoring: Tracked GSC for 8 weeks.

The Outcome

Within 8 weeks, service pages reclaimed the #1 spot for all commercial queries. Lead quality improved immediately, shifting from general questions to specific, high-intent service requests (location, guard count, and start dates).

Key Lesson: Architecture beats volume. If the wrong page ranks, your revenue is leaking.
